About Wildscape! How did you think of this?

The number one question I get asked is " How in the world did you come up with this idea?! Well I would like to answer that for you now.
In 1995, Ben Stout, my ex-husband, and I had this crazy idea! Ben is a biologist who specializes in stream ecosystems. While working on his research, he brought some caddisfly larva into his lab at Wheeling Jesuit University. Some of his students were looking at the size stones they were using to build their cases. So, I thought it would be neet to put some aquarium gravel in with the caddisflies to see what they would do with colored stones. Well, I could not believe it!!! The next day there were caddisfly cases made with , yellow, green, blue and orange aquarium grave!!! It was great! I said " this is not a science experiment anymore.... it is ART!!
So from that moment on I was looking for stones to crush up and give to the caddisfly larva to build with. But our next obsticle was to have a place to raise the caddisfly in! It took Ben and I 3 years of trial and error to develope the simulated stream that we use now to raise the caddisfly larva in. This has been a great journey learning about the habitat of the caddisfly and why they are so important to our stream ecosystems.
Now, Wildscape is run by me!, and my friends and family help with making jewelry and going to shows with me. Also I have been going to schools and organizations to present my story of Wildscape and the caddisfly! Everyone loves it and enjoys learning about the wonderful caddisfly!!!
